Stakeholders Roundtable on Women Leadership in Horticulture Sector

On 27th October 2016 at Portofino Villa Hotel in Kigali, Haguruka in partnership with Hivos convened a round table here in Rwanda to deliberate on issues of women leadership in Rwanda horticulture sector.

The round table was organized by Haguruka in the context of campaign dubbed” WOMEN @WORK” that contributes to decent work for women who earn their living through global production chains, most notably flowers, vegetable and fruits in Rwanda, specifically by collaborate with business enterprises and the governmental institution to influence value chain dialogue for more sustainable outcomes for women workers who comprise the majority of workforce in the sector.

The round table has also the objectives of bringing on board workers and their representative, Trade Unions, Women rights organizations, CSOs with interest in horticulture, lobby groups and business players and their associations in order to facilitate the identification of stakeholder’s inputs into draft strategy on Women Leadership in the Horticulture sector in Rwanda within particular emphasis on the needs identified by the sector players. It was also a good time to identify possible country partners (CSOs, privet sector players, unions etc) for the strategy, and present a forum to deliberate and secure buy in buy the partners and stakeholders involvement on women leadership issues, especially those in within interest on women advancement, workers and horticulture issues.
