From October 2012, HAGURUKA has implemented the project entitled Operation Day’s Work in partnership with Plan International/Rwanda; this project covered 21 secondary schools in Bugesera district and 29 secondary schools in Gatsibo district.
This project has come up with good results where, trainings have been provided to the young students on different laws related to the child’s rights, formulation of clubs and cascading activities for the purpose of ensuring that young people become aware of their rights.
The main objective was to raise students/youth’s awareness about child’s rights; to foster confidence among the youth in self expression and speaking out of their rights, and fight against gender based violence in schools.
The ODW’s activities were closed by the “Inter-clubs tournament” event which took place on 10th June 2016 at Kayonza in East Land Hotel. Students from all schools were gathered for the purposes of evaluation at what extend the young students are aware of their rights and how to handle any violation against their rights.
In her speech, the National Executive Secretary of HAGURUKA-NGO thanks first of all Plan International-Rwanda for the good collaboration during the project’s period, and said that HAGURUKA-NGO was pleased to implement this project, because it is in its mission as a National NGO which defend women and child’s rights.
In this ceremony, the representative of Plan International-Rwanda thanks also the participants and HAGURUKA particularly, and said that even if the project reaches its end, the clubs will continues the activities, and he urged the students to keep fight for their right at schools, at home, and surrounding environment. The ceremony was closed by awarding the winners of the tournament.
