In accordance with Haguruka’s mission of creating a society where the rights of women and children are respected; where women and children live free from violence and discrimination so that they can reach their full potential, and basically under its key areas of intervention of “capacity development of partners and stakeholder”, It has been organized and conducted several activities aimed at building and strengthening the capacity of some organization’s lawyers, counselors, local authorities, key people in the community, paralegal, and etc.
It’s in this context that Haguruka collaboratively with USAID-Duteze Imbere Ubutabera has organized and conducted training sessions for 100 women as the representatives from National Women Council (CNF) from five (5) Districts such as Gasabo, Musanze, Bugesera, Nyarugenge, and Nyamasheke. Those pieces of training were held at different sites from those District between 13th and 24th February 2019.
The pieces of training were aimed at (1) empowering women on their roles in advocacy especially on the Abunzi system and on most applicable laws (Land Laws, Inheritance Law, and key Self-Advocacy skills), and (2) capacity women to advocate for their legal rights and sensitive judicial actors to gender-specific concern.
On the level of satisfaction in terms of skills and knowledge acquired, it has been realized and noted that the expectation and fulfillment have shown by the participants obviously showed the necessity and importance of the training. The National Women Commissions have manifested that they strongly believe that they are going to provide the services clearly and effectively to society. And, those services include the prevention and resolution of conflicts in the society, the advocacy, and guidance of women and children in conflict with the law as well.
