In partnership with the USAID/Land Project, Haguruka NGO has conducted research entitled “Review and Analysis of Primary Court Judgments and MAJ Legal Guidance Related to Women’s Property Rights and Land Rights in Rwanda”.
This research examined 200 courts judgments from 15 primary courts across the whole country between 2009 and 2014, and 25 MAJ’s legal briefs selected in 5 districts. The aim of the research was to analyze how the women’s property laws are applied.
The validation session of the preliminary research findings took place on Friday 29 January 2016 at Umubano Hotel. At this event, the participants included the Inspector General of Courts and Tribunals from the Supreme Court, some Primary Court judges, independent lawyers, academics, and civil society organizations in the legal aid domain.
During this validation session, Haguruka presented the research findings and the participants gave their views through the groups discussions. The guests were happy and appreciated the research.
Haguruka will take into account these comments and ideas when producing the final research document.
