Comprehensive legal aid and empowerment services for vulnerable women and children

Legal Services

Legal Representation

HAGURUKA represents vulnerable women and children with limited financial means to access justice by providing legal representation before courts of law. Legal representation ensures that their rights are effectively defended and that their cases are presented with the strength and professionalism they deserve.

Mediation Services

Mediation helps parties achieve mutually acceptable resolutions without resorting to formal court proceedings. When applied carefully, mediation can provide quicker, less adversarial, and more amicable solutions. HAGURUKA’s approach reinforces an essential principle: mediation must never replace accountability where violence is involved.

DNA Testing Support

DNA testing is a practical tool that strengthens evidence in paternity and child-related matters. For many women, accessing legal rights can be difficult due to insufficient evidence. DNA testing serves as a justice-enabling intervention that protects children’s rights and supports fair legal outcomes.

Legal Advice & Referral

We provide in-depth legal consultation, case analysis, and strategic referrals to appropriate services. Our legal advisors offer clear guidance on rights, procedures, and available legal options.

Safe Shelters

Haguruka operates and partners with safe shelters, providing vital and temporary refuge and support for women and children fleeing violence or danger at home. Shelters are linked to legal aid, psychosocial support, and legal awareness.

Legal Education Services

Haguruka's legal education activities include community dialogues, couple forums, women's safe spaces, school sessions, door-to-door visits, and paralegal outreach, all delivered in the local language and adapted to the context. Structured briefings, advocacy meetings, and policy dialogues engage duty bearers and service providers to strengthen enforcement and accountability. Radio shows and segments explain legal topics, share referral information, and feature expert question and answer sessions. Educational booklets and simplified legal messages make key laws accessible to rights holders across all literacy levels. Short videos, infographics, and WhatsApp packs extend reach to youth, survivors, and service providers.
