Our Approaches

Our Approaches

Innovative and community-centered methodologies to deliver justice and empowerment

Legal Aid Delivery

Toll-Free Support (4311)

A phone call can be the safest first step for a woman who cannot travel, is afraid to be seen seeking help, or needs immediate guidance. A toll-free line removes barriers of distance and cost, offering confidential information, rapid orientation, and a pathway to further support.

Walk-In Legal Aid

For many women, justice begins with being heard without judgement or intimidation, and with respect and confidentiality. Through our head office and centres in every province, we provide legal advice, case assessment, and referrals.

Mobile Legal Aid Clinics

Mobile legal aid clinics are an approach to decentralizing services and bringing them closer to citizens, especially in remote areas. This helps reduce the cost and time citizens would otherwise spend seeking legal aid services at our offices. HAGURUKA lawyers leave their offices to deliver legal aid directly within communities, reduce transportation burdens, and create opportunities for early intervention.

Outreach Methods

Couples' Dialogue

These sessions bring together couples experiencing conflict and those living in peaceful cohabitation to discuss conflict-free marriage. The dialogue focuses on the GBV law, gender norms, and other barriers that drive GBV. Couples living in harmony serve as role models and mobilise couples in conflict.

Womens'Safe Spaces

Regular, confidential meeting places (physical or virtual) where women and girls gather for peer support, psychosocial counselling, legal information, skills-building, and collective problem-solving. These spaces prioritise safety, trust, and confidentiality, and enable empowerment, referrals, and community organising. Women who participate often become advocates in their own communities, extending Haguruka's reach.

Grassroots Awareness Campaigns

Locally driven outreach activities (community meetings, door-to-door mobilisation, posters, flyers, theatre, and village events) raise awareness about rights, laws, services, and GBV prevention. They rely on trained community volunteers and paralegals to disseminate simple, culturally appropriate messages and to link people to assistance.

Radion and TV Talk Shows

Broadcast programmes (live or recorded) featuring experts, survivors, community leaders, and call-ins to discuss rights, legal procedures, gender equality, and available services. They reach wide audiences, normalise dialogue about sensitive issues, and encourage listeners and viewers to seek help or join local initiatives.

Education Publications and Materials

Targeted use of platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.) to share informational posts, short videos, survivor stories, helpline details, and event announcements. These campaigns increase visibility, engage youth, enable rapid dissemination, and support two-way engagement and referral.
