The Mott Foundation project, running from September 2023 to December 2025, focuses on enhancing Haguruka’s organisational capacity and expanding access to justice. It operates in several regions, including Ngoma, Bugesera, Nyamasheke, Nyanza, Kayonza, Musanze, and Kigali. The project targets paralegals, Haguruka staff, and GBV victims.
The project’s activities are divided into two main areas: Organisational Capacity Development (OCD) and Access to Justice (AJ). OCD achievements include training 30 paralegals and providing them with the necessary working materials, as well as conducting gender mainstreaming and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) training for Haguruka staff. In 2024, paralegals handled 339 cases – mostly related to property rights, succession, and divorce – and reached over 11,500 people through 81 community awareness activities. Access to justice is further supported through a toll-free helpline, walk-in legal aid, and mobile clinics.
