During this quarter, HAGURUKA, with support from Trócaire, participated in the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City from 9–13 March 2026.

CSW70 provided a strategic global platform to advance discussions on gender equality and women’s access to justice under the theme: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices, and addressing structural barriers.”

During the session, HAGURUKA actively participated in high-level discussions and co-hosted a side event titled “From Rights to Lived Reality – Women’s and Girls’ Access to Justice” in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF), FIDA Uganda, and FEMNET. The event brought together approximately 82 participants, including government delegates, civil society organizations, UN agencies, and development partners. Discussions highlighted practical approaches to bridging the gap between legal frameworks and the lived realities of women and girls across the region.

HAGURUKA also participated in the parallel event “Voices Across Borders: Women’s Solidarity Networks Advancing Access to Justice,” organized by Servas International. During the event, the organization showcased innovative approaches to improving access to justice, including mobile legal aid clinics, community paralegals, and mediation services.

Through participation in thematic sessions, bilateral meetings, and strategic engagements with international and regional stakeholders, HAGURUKA strengthened its visibility, reinforced partnerships, and gained valuable insights to inform its ongoing work.
