At the Geneva PeaceTalks 2024, Haguruka delivered a clear message to the United Nations: peace is not possible without the active protection of human rights.
Haguruka – meaning “stand up” in Kinyarwanda defends the rights of women and children in Rwanda. Our Executive Secretary, Ninette Umurerwa, stated :
“There can be no peace without the protection of human rights. Only when we respect and uphold the rights of every individual can we achieve lasting peace for all.”
That conviction shapes everything Haguruka does – programmes built at the individual, family, and community level, grounded in the belief that peace starts from within:
“Peace begins within us, and it is in our power to cultivate it. It is about the choices we make and the positive impact we have on the lives of others.”
Rooted in Rwanda’s journey of healing, Haguruka’s work is part of a larger story – one of a nation and a people choosing to rise:
“Rwanda has chosen to rise above its past, to embrace a future built on unity, justice, and peace.”
